I wanted to continue on my heavy contrasted theme a little more, just love the way CG and flashy palette works together as usual, my goal is not to create a CG realistic pict, i rather concentrate on rythme, shapes and tones... Had fun with this one, hope you'll like!

the tittle says it all...
im huge fan of heavymetal's 80's covers, when such big names like Moebius, Caza, Druillet where still working on the french original magazine Metal hurlant
and heavy metal's where done by Bisley, Corben,Liberatore...
A great and inspirationnal time
i wanted the guy to look powerfull, so i used some photos from aireplanes for the textures
( yes he looks like cyclop from Xmen, but hey im a comics fanboy too:P)
As usual, modelled with 3dsmax and mudbox, rendered with vray, touched ups on photoshop of course
rendered with vray and lots of touchups in photoshop of course
This is one of my attempts to achieve some painterly and old classic illustration by using digital mediums. Here i pushed the technic even more by going almost monochromatic in tones. I wanted to get a 80's cover look, something more graphical..
Background is photo based (nasa shots of mars)
Some skeletton parts like the spinal cord are from an old viewpoint model ( yeah im lazy sometimes
Inspiration: Frazetta, Bisley and Terada
photoshop filters used: poster edges, pain daubs and lighting effects

hope you'll like it
Monochromatic is there on purpose, as i think it suits well with more complex and detailled meshes.
For more personnal tastes of the moment too
I actually started a serie of more design oriented characters , with more work on the modelling over the texturing aspect. I really like the graphic style that i can achieve with this technique
